Services for displaced/homeless families (McKinney-Vento Act)
What Is the McKinney-Vento Act?
Children and youth experiencing homelessness have the right to a free, appropriate public education.
The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act is the primary piece of federal legislation dealing with the education of children and youth experiencing homelessness. It was authorized as Title X, Part C, of the No Child Left Behind Act, which went into effect in January 2002.
Under this Act, the Charleston County School District (CCSD) offers various services to children who are experiencing homelessness.
